LAMBOURN PRACTICE –overview

Lambourn, located in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the North Wessex Downs area, is known as the heart of the Valley of the racehorse. It is home to over thirty licensed trainers, including flat and national hunt training. The Jockey Club Estate offers world class training facilities with 14 miles of turf and artificial gallops. In addition a few trainers have their own private gallops, along with high speed treadmills, water treadmills and salt rooms.

The only ‘traffic’ jams experienced in this village is in the mornings when the town is bustling with horses making their way to the gallops. Slowing down to follow behind a string of excited horses making mist with their breath, jockeys waving a friendly thank you for slowing down, is a traffic jam that seems a privilege to be stuck in!

Lambourn has produced many notable race horses in both flat and national hunt racing. A firm favourite amongst the locals is Many Clouds, a local brewing company has even produced an ale, named MANY CLOUDS, in honour of the gelding bringing home the Grand National Trophy in 2015. Sir Percy, the top ranked colt in Britain in 2005, was trained at Kingwood House Stables.

This is an exciting venture for the Baker McVeigh team, with the support of our Newmarket practice with weekly visits from Antony Clements, Fernando Perez and Duncan Moir we are able to offer our services to the trainers and horses of Lambourn. We are a fully equipped mobile practice with digital radiography, ultrasound and endoscopy. Jess Dicks is spearheading the practice along with her assistant, Charlotte Treleaven, who is an essential part of the team. Charlotte was previously self employed backing and schooling difficult horses. She currently trains her own horse, Rupert, and competes with him in point to point racing.
